5 Tips for Surviving Halloween

We all cringe when our kids come in from trick or treating and dump their bags full of candy onto the floor.
As they squeal with delight, we gasp with despair at the thought of the major sugar crash coming our way and the weeks of them sneaking Halloween candy into their pockets or backpacks.

So I've compiled a few alternatives that have worked in our house or in other houses:
Tip#1: When we lived in town my husband would always roll his eyes when I bought small Halloween water bottles to give out instead of candy. He would exclaim "we are the house that is going to get egged!" (Do kids even do that anymore?) Anyways I would always see the kids drinking the water bottles BEFORE opening a can of pop! Trick or treating is hard work and they usually get thirsty halfway through so why not help them out a little?
Tip #2: Play-doh is always a hit for the little ones, who doesn't love play-doh?! Side note: we have NEVER been egged!
Tip#3: Glow sticks! These are fun for any age, plus when it gets dark out the kids can put them on, allowing them to be more visible to drivers. Safety first!
Tip#4: Another option is paying your kids for their candy. This is a great idea for the older kids, and I have done it on my own. I tell them to pick out their ten favourite pieces of candy and I will give them money for the rest of it, for them to put towards something they want.
Tip#5: And last but not least, always feed your kids BEFORE they go out trick or treating, this will prevent them from binging on the candy because they are so hungry and it will also help level out that sugar crash we all know will happen at the end of the night when you are trying to put them to bed. ;)
Happy Halloween!! What are your littles (or you) going dressed as this year?!
